Driving directions to Oriskany NY:
Located on State Rt. 69 midway between Utica and Rome NY, 5 miles north of the Westmoreland exit #32 of I-90.  When exiting I-90, turn left onto Cider Street which leads directly into Oriskany.  At the end of Cider Street, turn right onto Utica Street, proceed through the village of Oriskany; museum is on the left in a park setting.

The museum houses a very large collection of artifacts, photos, clothing, and memorabilia from shipmates of the USS Oriskany.  There are folders of clippings and paper documents given by shipmates, there are folders of information about the ship. We have a large collection of cruise books and photo albums.  There are many small artifacts from the ship acquired during working parties, and outside we have the starboard anchor, the ship's bell and an A4E Skyhawk like the type which flew off the deck.

In addition to USS Oriskany memorabilia, the museum has dioramas telling the story of the Battle of Oriskany.  There is a large section containing memorabilia and artifacts from the village of Oriskany and its inhabitants.  The current building was completed and dedicated in 1997 and its first curator was Robert Heeley.

We receive visitors from all over the US, many of whom were shipmates or family members.  We host educational functions and have about 1000 visitors a year.

The museum collection was begun by the Battle of Oriskany Historical Society in 1966 and the society continues to hold meetings and care for the artifacts.
