The museum was dedicated Memorial Day weekend, 1997.

The museum has three areas of focus:  the Battle of Oriskany which took place in 1777, the village of Oriskany NY, and the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Oriskany CV-34.  All three sets of display have the common link of "Oriskany" and all are well represented in our one-story, handicapped accessible building, located in Trinkaus Park.

EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT

William Kahler, an Oriskany Central School senior, is working toward an Eagle Scout award by building and installing storage shelving in the museum basement.  William approached the museum curator last fall, looking for ideas for his project.  A similar set of shelves had been made by an Oriskany Eagle Scout in 1998, and William was willing to help the museum in this way for the safety of the artifactsThe Oriskany Reunion Association gave William $500 for the purchase of supplies during the 2003 reunion, and we would like you all to know that the project is coming along very well, thanks to him and several of his friends, shown in the pictures below taken in January and February 2004.  Of the five sets of shelving, one has locking doors for valuables, something the museum did not already have.

William and his friends built the plywood shelves, moved them into the museum basement, waterproof-sealed the sides and back and helped move large items. The ORA should be proud and grateful for this addition to the museum!!
